Description

Kenneth Ward (Dip Arch, ARIBA) joined the choir of Dronfield Parish Church in 1944 at the age of 7 and was involved until his death at the age of 75. During his years as a chorister and member of ‘The A-Team’ (a group of male parishioners who undertook minor building repairs, churchyard grass cutting and church hall decoration etc), Ken documented the history of the church, especially the architecture.
Over time Ken became the unofficial church historian responding to enquiries from around the UK and across the world from those searching for family graves. His knowledge of the church, along with others, helped to bring about the 850th Anniversary Son et Lumiere in 1985. His commitment and desire to impart his knowledge on others meant local groups of adults and children were often taken on guided tours around St. Johns with the aid of his handwritten index cards and a lifetime of stored knowledge.
